Microcosmos

A human face, a data point, a cell — three ways of seeing the same body.

Microcosmos is a video installation commissioned for the Novo Nordisk Art Collection. It moves fluidly between the human face, the microscopic world of cellular biology, and the abstract terrain of data science. A journey that dissolves the boundaries between subject, specimen, and number.

We built the visuals through a combination of artificial intelligence, generative techniques, and 3D animation. The work draws on scientific datasets from Novo Nordisk and IDR’s public repository, grounding the imagery in actual biomedical research rather than approximation.

The aim was to make visible the normally invisible layers through which contemporary medicine understands the human body. To place the individual at the centre of that process, cycling between embodied person and abstracted object of study.
