Reflected Realities

A body that must be managed becomes, for a moment, a face.

Reflected Realities is an outdoor installation of four vertical screens, each displaying an AI-generated portrait shaped by biometric data from people living with diabetes. The work gives form to something that chronic illness usually keeps interior: the constant, invisible negotiation between a person and their own body.

We worked with data and personal accounts from people with diabetes as the source material, which through a process of AI interpretation developed in collaboration with artist Cecilie Falkenstrøm, was used to construct four distinct archetypes. Each archetype represents a different psychological relationship to life with the condition: the activist, the denier, the disengaged, and the insight-seeker.

Interaction with the LLM is handeled through Touchdesigner, which calls a llama.cpp server in local machine. This insured that we had no blocking processes while keeping the flexability of the TD workflow.

The project was developed in close collaboration with the Danish Diabetes Association and realized with support from the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
