Urban Forest

For one month, a metro station became a forest.

Urban Forest transformed Kgs. Nytorv metro station in Copenhagen into an immersive, organic environment. Through light, sound, and 30-metre-tall video projections, the cold and hectic atmosphere of one of the city’s busiest transit hubs was replaced with something calm and alive. The Danish Royal Ballet performed an exclusive ballet within the piece.

We built Urban Forest with 30 partners and sponsors including the Royal Danish Theatre, Copenhagen Municipal, Copenhagen Metro, Philips, and Wonderful Copenhagen. A production team of 350 people across engineering, hardware, and creative disciplines. The project carried an estimated value of 14 million DKK.

Over the course of the installation, 1.1 million citizens visited. Mayor of Culture Pia Allerselv opened the work in August 2010.
